29 Nov What is the Value of Mentoring?
Some time ago, I delved into the traditional concept of mentoring, understanding it as a relationship where an experienced individual guides someone newer and less experienced, fostering learning through expertise and connection. As I progressed on my journey, I added numerous pieces to my personal development puzzle, placing emphasis on specific aspects:
- Engaging in quality conversations
- Building the partnership
- Embracing mutual learning
I realized that professional mentoring involves a structured framework, often guided by a code of ethics and a defined set of competencies for assessment.
Recently, I made the decision to enroll in an accredited mentor training program offered by EMCC RO and to be a part of MOZAIC – the Mentoring Program within EMCC Romania, offered for its members. This decision brought forth challenges requiring dedication, time commitment, and active involvement.
Initially, my inner voices were questioning the necessity of the training program: “Do you really have the time for classes, readings, and assignments?” However, another perspective emerged, highlighting the value of embracing something new, connecting with others, and learning from both mentor and mentee viewpoints.
During the training program, I appreciated the flexibility offered and found immense value in the reflective moments, exploring models, refining skills, designing and evaluating mentoring programs, and learning various techniques, including how to articulate reflections effectively. The privilege was to have Dr. Riza Kadilar as our trainer. What a rich experience!
Meanwhile, MOZAIC commenced! This program established a clear process involving matching, onboarding, and defined intervals for mentoring relationships.
Interestingly, many of my experienced colleagues, proficient in coaching, mentoring, team coaching, and supervision, decided to join both the mentorship class and MOZAIC.
I’m genuinely thrilled, curious, and enthusiastic to witness what unfolds next, anticipating the challenges and learnings that lie ahead.
The value of mentoring is multifaceted and profoundly impactful. It extends beyond the individuals involved; it ripples throughout an organization, fostering a culture of growth, support, and excellence. And our collective participation signifies our commitment to shaping such a robust learning culture,
MOZAIC will become an ongoing program and you are always welcomed to join us and be part of our community!
