18 Sep What is Supervision?
The term Supervision needs a bit of clarification.
In a nutshell, Supervision means to oversee the tasks and activities performed by the subordinates and giving guidance and instructions to them.
EMCC Global’s definition of supervision is:
A safe space for reflective dialogue with a practicing supervisor, supporting the supervisee’s practice, development, and well-being.
Here I’m approaching Supervision in this second meaning, as a space for reflective dialogue…
What can you get as a supervisee?
- Help for attending to what you are not seeing, not hearing, not allowing yourself to feel, or not saying
- Helps to develop your internal supervisor and become developmental a better reflective practitioner
- Provides you a supportive space to process what you have resourcing absorbed from your clients
I chose to become a supervisee quite soon after becoming a certified coach and continuing regular practice with different supervisors as well as with peers.
Looking back from where I started and where I arrived today, it is a journey filled with learnings which are influencing my style as a coach/supervisor by increasing my self-awareness and the way I’m holding the space while remaining in the unknown.
I noticed how the practice is shaping deeper reflections, increasing my acuity, and modelling my interventions within diverse sessions. This is a continuous journey and I’m curious to discover what else will come -up…
What did you notice about yourself practicing Supervision as Supervisee?
And if you have not practiced yet, it may be the time to start it.
