The words Great Resignation or Great Reset became popular nowadays, as more people started to look for a new job.
A recent survey by Allstate Canada found that 55% of working respondents had thought about looking for a new job in the last six months.
Pandemic changed a lot the approach of people when it comes to jobs.
They are now taking a long, hard look in the mirror and asking themselves:
“Is this the job/ company/ boss that I want? And if not, what am I going to do about it?”
Most of us are used with hierarchical career ladders, meaning making vertical steps mainly on the same function / department. In large, hierarchical, organizations employees could see a defined pathway and potential timeline for rising to the top. And this is still function today.
However, which are needs for employees today ? Which are the needs of business ?
People are defining their needs based on own life stage, expectations and many factors which are influencing from actual context.
Career lattice is a new approach, which is promoting movement in multiple directions – lateral, diagonal and down, as well as vertical; across different departments, functions, or business units.
Let’s have a look on the benefits from both sides !
Benefits for employees: greater flexibility, choice, greater opportunities for growth and development.
Benefits for organizations: enhance overall competencies development for employees, provide employees to move cross-functionally, attract and retain them.
The question is: how many organizations are prepared and able to embrace this approach?
And who is not there, what do they need to change and to take into consideration to become closer ?
Facing and addressing challenges is already a path of moving forward. Small steps are preparing the big jump !
Be bold and do it!
